Many consumers would have different reactions regarding jailbreaking their Apple products. In fact, there are even some who are still unfamiliar with the process. There are some who would want to do it, but don’t know how. Jailbreaking an iPod Touch is very similar to doing it on other devices such as the iPhone and the iPad. It somehow is just easy to do, but it has some pros and cons for those who want to try it.

Jailbreaking simply means eliminating the restrictions imposed by Apple on its devices which run the iOS operating system. This means that owners of Apple products can easily download and extract applications without the use of Apple’s App Store. What’s even better is that these applications can be downloaded for free. iPod Touch owners would notice that upon jailbreak applications which cost a few US dollars in the App Store would not even cost a single penny anymore.

Jailbreaking, however, is not always the same for every device. It actually depends on different factors, such as what type of device one wishes to perform the jailbreak on, what generation the device is, and what iOS version the device has. On the brighter side of things, it just involves several programs, all of which are just similar when it comes to usage. These programs are RedSn0w, JailbreakMe, Absinthe, and Seas0npass.

It should also be noted that there are two types of jailbreaks, the tethered one and the untethered one. An untethered jailbreak means that if the device has shut down or has been switched off, it will completely start up without any problems. This simply indicates that the device will start up in a jailbroken state after every reboot. On the other hand, a tethered jailbreak is the exact opposite of the untethered one. An untethered jailbroken device has to be re-jailbroken everytime it is shut down. This means that before the device can be turned on, it should be plugged-in to the computer first and the user should do the jailbreaking process again. There are even some instances that the device won’t open unless the jailbreak method has been re-applied. Device owners should keep in mind two things – (1) that the jailbreak should always be done everytime the device is turned off; and (2) that not all devices have tethered and untethered jailbreaks. Usually, devices with the new iOS versions installed and newly released Apple devices only have the untethered jailbreak procedure.

The step-by-step procedure is pretty easy. Of course, one should have the device, his computer, and his connector ready. First, the iOS version of the device should be checked. The jailbreak program (JailbreakMe, RedSn0w, Absinthe, or Seas0npass) applicable to the iOS version should then be downloaded. For example, if the iPod Touch has the iOS 5.1 version installed, the user should download RedSn0w 0.9.10b6 for Mac or for Windows. Apple device owners could check through the internet regarding which jailbreak program version they should download for their devices. The program should then be launched on the computer to begin jailbreak. The iPod should then be turned off and connected to the computer. It should be placed in DFU mode, which can be done by following the instructions on the screen. After this, just follow the step-by-step instructions, but when the checkbox options appear, select the ‘Install Cydia’ button. The device will then begin rebooting and afterwards, jailbreaking will be completed. Click the ‘Finish’ button and the procedure will be complete. If it does not reboot afterwards, just reboot manually using the program and on the checkbox, select the ‘Just boot tethered now’ box. After installing Cydia, use the app to get the application known as Installous. It’s actually the new App Store, the app where users can download the cracked apps for free.

Most people would want to jailbreak their Apple devices because they can download apps freely without spending too much money. However, a jailbroken iPod loses its warranty. Once the iPod is jailbroken, Apple has no liability whatsoever in case the device does not work anymore. Nevertheless, the device can still use the App Store. However, applications that have been downloaded on Installous cannot be updated via the App Store. Also, a jailbroken iPod cannot be updated to a newer iOS version. Once the iPod is updated to a newer version of the operating system, the device loses all the apps downloaded in Installous. This means that the jailbreaking process should be done again, but this time the user should download a jailbreak program that is compatible with the newer iOS version. These are the pros and cons of iPod jailbreaking.

While there are many benefits and downfalls to jailbreaking an Apple device, it all depends on the owner of the device on whether he is going to jailbreak the device or not. It should be noted, however, that there are risks involved in doing such a process, and it is not a recommended procedure as it a practice not recognized by Apple. It all boils down to choice, to jailbreak or not to jailbreak, and face the consequences of selected option.

Refer to this website if you want to learn how to download and install jailbreak app on your ipod touch.

It is a fact that there has been an undeniable rise in the demand for smartphones. While this is true, the iPod Touch still has its charm among gadget-savvy buyers. Yes, it may not have the capacity to make phone calls but it nearly has the same features of an iPhone 5.

FEATURES:

The iPod touch 5th Gen boasts of a 4-inch Retina display with a 1136×640 resolution.

It may have increased in size, as compared to its previous generations, but its still yet the most portable iPod touch, weighing only 88 grams and even thinner than the iPhone 5.

Volume, power and home controls are all in similar spots as its previous generations.

Running on iOS 6, you can use Wi-Fi in most iOS features such as FaceTime, iMessage, Siri, Find My iPod, Email, calendar and contact features.

The iPod touch 5th generation also feature color options beyond black, white or silver. It comes in other funky colors such as pink, yellow, blue and red.

It also has “The Loop” which is similar to a wristband. It is absolutely perfect for those who tend to be clumsy and for those who want to make sure they don’t easily lose grip of this thin $299, 32GB device.

Music

If you are looking for the best media player out there, there’s really no contest here. The iPod touch was originally a digital music player and it still remains the best in the business.

There’s only one tiny speaker on the iPod touch, so the new EarPods are a must, but they take some getting used to. Some people complain that they do not fit comfortably in their ears, but I like that they never fall out. The EarPods provide rich, decent sound, but Apple has yet to improve on noise cancellation.

Camera

The wristband feature combined with the much-improved, 5 megapixel camera, makes me want to believe Apple is planning to eat some portion of the pie within the point-and-shoot camera market.

The iSight 5-megapixel camera takes decent outdoor shots, but could be grainy in low-light situations. It can also take good panoramas.

The iSight camera also features tap to focus, LED flash, and face detection. It can shoot 1080p HD video, and the 720p resolution front camera is good enough for FaceTime calls.

Games and Apps

The introduction of the dual-core A5 chip makes it more capable and powerful to give you mobile gaming pleasure.

The 4-inch Retina display also provides more vivid colors. As such, it’s not only an plus for gaming, but it is also great for video and movie pleasure.

Social integration

Can post photos instantly to Facebook from the Photos app, or be reminded of your friends’ birthdays in Calendar and Contacts. You can also tweet photos and videos directly from whatever app you’re in.

Battery

The iPod Touch also features the new tiny Lighting jack at the bottom. Apple claims up to 40 hours of music or 8 hours of video on a single charge.

Battery life is very good. Combined use of e-book reading, listening to music, gaming, internet surfing, and FaceTime lasted me almost the entire day – about 15 hours.

Audience

It will appeal to a younger market segment whose activities range from games, watching videos, taking photos or social media browsing.

It is also recommended for anyone who wants a dedicated media and game player that’s more portable than the iPad Mini.

It is also good for those who has Android or BlackBerry as their primary smartphone, but wants to test Apple’s iOS system.

Generally, it is recommended only if you’re not looking for a new phone.

Price

It starts at $299 for the 32GB model. There are no 8 or 16GB options and almost similarly priced as the iPad mini. However, can’t afford the premium of an iPhone, then the iPod touch is your next best and cheaper alternative.

Fibromyalgia, formerly known as fibrositis, is a condition that causes chronic pain, stiffness and tenderness to the muscles, tendons, joints and soft tissues of the body. This condition is considered to be one of the most common conditions affecting the muscles and more prevalent in women between 35 and 40 years old. Fibromyalgia natural treatment options are being considered due to the chronic nature of the pain involved in this condition. Do further your reading by going to this website.

Symptoms

Pain is the presenting symptom of this disease. These pain symptoms are aggravated by several factors such as noise, certain weather conditions and stress. The symptoms of this disease are not accompanied with inflammation and there is no body damage or deformity caused. Though typically widespread, the pain usually affects the buttock, shoulders, arms, chest, upper back and buttocks. Ninety per cent of patients with this condition experiences fatigue. It is also characterized by sleep disturbance, depression, anxiety, and disturbance in bowel functions. Other symptoms of fibromyalgia includes poor concentration, memory dysfunction, irritability, depression, anxiety and mood changes. Patients may also experience migraine, tension headaches, abdominal pain, numbness or tingling of some parts of the body, and painful and frequent urination.

Currently, the cause of this disease is unknown although it has been associated with psychological distress, trauma and infection. Researchers have found that the patients with fibromyalgia has increased levels of substance P, a nerve chemical signal, and nerve growth factor in the spinal fluid and low levels of serotonin. Studies suggest that the central nervous systems of these patients are overly sensitive.

Diagnosis

There is no specific test to diagnose fibromyalgia. However, several tests are done to rule out the existence of other diseases that may be causing the symptoms felt by the patient. Differential diagnoses include hypothyroidism, parathyroid disease, vitamin D deficiency, muscle diseases such as fibromyositis, bone diseases such as Paget’s disease, hypercalcemia, infectious diseases and cancer. The diagnosis of fibromyalgia is based on history and physical examination.

Treatment

Effective treatment programs include a combination of stress reduction, exercise, patient education and administration of medications. Tricyclic antidepressant medications used traditionally to treat depression have been found effective for fibromyalgia in aiding sleep, reduction of fatigue and relief of pain. This medication is taken at bedtime in a fraction of the dose used in treating depression. Examples of tricyclic antidepressants are amitriptyline (Elavil) and doxepin (Sinequan). Fluoxetine (Prozac) has been shown to be effective in alleviating the symptoms in conjunction with the tricyclic antidepressants and also has the tendency to cancel out the side effects of both medications. Other drugs used in the treatment include gabapentin (Neurontin), duloxetine (Cymbalta), milnacipran (Savella), Lorazepam (Ativan) which is helpful in alleviating symptoms in resistant fibromyalgia and Trazodone which is used when the patient cannot tolerate tricyclic antidepressants. Analgesics and cortisone injections have also been used as well as muscle relaxants and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

There are clinical studies suggesting the effectiveness of non-pharmacological approach in treating the disease. These fibromyalgia natural treatment options include:

Supplements

Certain supplements occurring naturally in food and in the body are found to be beneficial in the reduction of symptoms or promote rest and sleep. One of these is Vitamin D. Although there is no concrete evidence that vitamin D is effective for fibromyalgia, if was found to have beneficial effects on the muscle and nerve function of the body. Clinical studies also show that women who took vitamin D supplementation for 8 weeks experienced improved symptoms.

S-adenosylmethionine or SAMe is a naturally occurring substance in the body and has been shown to reduce pain, fatigue and stiffness. It is available in the form of a tablet.

Melatonin, a hormone that is thought to help promote sleep, has also been used in treating depression and chronic fatigue and is available in pill form.

The mineral magnesium is often suggested for fibromyalgia patients is needed for the generation of energy cell and was reported to improve pain and tenderness. This can be found in green leafy vegetables, seeds and whole grains.

Capsaicin from pepper plant has also been found to be beneficial in temporary pain relief. It is available over the counter in the form of sprays and lotions.

Therapies

Acupuncture has been found helpful in improving chronic pain symptoms of patients with fibromyalgia. It is said to alter the brain’s chemistry by changing the release of neurotransmitters which inhibits or stimulates the nerve impulses. Electroacupuncture, acupuncture with pulsed electrical current, has also been effective but does not provide long-lasting pain relief.

The most common alternative treatment for fibromyalgia is massage therapy because it is reported to reduce pain and increase the quality of life. Although it does not seem to be helpful in relieving pain, it helps promote relaxation. The types of massage commonly used are the Swedish massage, deep-tissue massage and neuromuscular massage.

Biofeedback therapy uses the mind and body connection in order to help control the pain.

Chiropractic manipulation of the spine is also included in the fibromyalgia natural treatment options and has been used to improve function, relieve pain and help promote healing. It also helps in increasing the range of motion of the cervical and lumbar spine.

Having fibroids is a tremendous health condition giving discomforts to a woman. These tumors grow and develop in the uterine walls caused by increased levels of estrogen in the body. They commonly occur in middle-aged women. Often times, it is associated with unlikely symptoms such as enlargement of the abdomen, abdominal pain, back pain, cramping and heavy menstrual flow. These types of tumors may grow from small nodules or lumps to exceedingly enormous tumors, similar to a 6-month pregnant. Due to its growing size, it may compress with other organs such as bladder, colon and fallopian tube. With this anatomical position, it causes difficulties in urination, defecation and even conception. If left untreated, discomforts may increase in severity and lead to more serious manifestations. As a result, having uterine tumors is indeed a major dilemma for a woman.

It is good to know that these types of tumors are benign abnormal cells. Even though they cause life threatening symptoms, once these tumors are removed or treated, they never go back. It gives a woman hope of survival and easy recovery as soon as proper treatment is done. However, there are some women who prefer to treat these tumors without undergoing surgical operations. Some refuse such treatment due to several reasons. First, surgical and medical management are usually costly and out of budget. Second, some women have fears going under the knife. Another is that, some women are less knowledgeable about having this condition and that it can be easily treated.

Luckily, there is a way to this that can be done in your own kitchens. There are certain food selections that help shrink the said benign lumps. This allows women to control their diet to aid in their condition. By following an appropriate meal plan and regular work out, these can be treated or at least, can be decreased in size and number. Here are some ideas on how to treat fibroids through diet:

Maintaining a healthy diet and weight is one of the major keys to help shrink fibroids. One way to shrink fibroids in the kitchen is limiting intake or at least avoid consumption of red meat, caffeinated drinks/food, sweets and alcohol. According to experts, they cause fibroids to increase in number and eventually, increase in size.

Limiting dairy products should also be considered having it known that they contain hormones that increases supply of estrogen in the body. Milk and cheese coming from cows are an example.

Taking too long in the toilet? A continuously growing tumor causes compression with other organs leading to several discomforts. Well, as stated earlier women with fibroids may seem to have problems in urination and defecation. Fibroids increase in size more than one could imagine. Foods high in fiber help in the digestion and defecation. It makes body processes easier. Therefore, they are advised to increase intake of high-fiber foods and whole grains such as cereals, fruits, broccoli, barley, buckwheat, corn, flaxseed, millet, oats, rice and wheat. Not only that the above mentioned foods are good for digestion, they are also highly anti-estrogenic. Other foods that inhibit production of estrogen are berries, citrus fruits, grapes, melons, pears and pineapples. By regularly consuming these foods, the possibility of having more benign tumors is most likely subjected to decrease.

Lastly, it is important to decrease your weight ideal to your age. Obesity is known as one of the major factors related to the occurrence of uterine fibroids. Eating a well balanced diet with regular exercise can help achieve desired weight. Drinking at least 8 glasses of water also help in shrinking fibroids.

More nursing graduates nowadays ask about how to become a clinical nurse specialist. If you are a nursing practitioner seeking ways on how to become more fulfilled and receive more rewards and opportunities, acquiring further studies and a specialization can help you do that. A CNS is one of those specializations that a lot of nursing practitioners want to pursue.

A CNS, as what they are often referred to, work closely with patients, family members, physicians, other nursing staff and hospital administrators. In order to achieve this career goal, you must be able to satisfy certain requirements and must credentials to complete.

Job Duties

A CNS works in private and public hospitals, clinics and other health care facilities but they often do not accept home-based jobs. This is because they work mostly with administrative and management duties which is not present in home-based jobs. Aside from that, they also work with education other nurses and they are also involved in a lot of research work. To be a CNS encompasses a lot of responsibilities that is normally not within the duty of a nurse. They can provide consultations to families of patients and administer treatments to patients. They are also tasked to supervise other nurses.

Requirement to Become a CNS: Training and Education

There are three ways on how you can earn your nursing degree: an associate degree, a bachelor’s degree, and a diploma offered by a hospital. The latter is rarely offered and only very few students are actually able to earn this which is why this is not a famous route for many aspiring CNS’ out there. The most common answer to become a clinical nurse specialist is to earn a bachelor’s degree first. This is better than having an associate degree especially on states which requires a bachelor’s degree for a nursing graduate to be able to pursue further education. This is a 4-year program that covers everything you will need to learn as a nurse and an exposure for you to practice what you have learned and to learn even more. A bachelor’s degree in nursing ends with an exam administered by the NCLEX-RN. You can also go for an associate’s degree if you prefer a faster timeframe for studying. This may or may not have exposure training but also ends in a NCLEX-RN exam to acquire your license.

A master’s degree is a major requirement on how to become a clinical nurse specialist. No CNS has achieved such status without finishing a master’s degree in nursing. You can then choose the specialization you want to enter. This program usually lasts for two years and after that, you need to earn your certification to be able to practice your specialization and become a CNS.

An area of special interest is also a requirement to become a CNS. A CNS is a highly specialized nurse that deals with the overall management of the hospital. As a CNS, you will deal not only with patients but with many other people which is why an area of special interest is often required. This can help you better in understanding the operations of the hospital, what your patients need, and how you can better serve them.

Requirement to Become a CNS: Work Experience

Most schools, universities and hospitals that offer a master’s degree to become a clinical nurse specialist requires its students and nursing practitioners to have a work experience. Minimum of 2 years is required for most of these institutions. Most fresh nursing graduates will be required to work as a staffing nurse for quite some time before they can proceed with other nursing positions and jobs. Make sure that you get a good career performance and overall evaluation as your superior can give you a good recommendation to the school the hospital you are working with is affiliated. This can give you an edge over other applicants who are also seeking to secure a slot in their master’s degree program.

Requirement to Become a CNS: Certificates

First, you need to pass the NCLEX-RN exam on how to become a clinical nurse specialist to get your license as a registered nurse. After completing your master’s degree, you will have to get another certification exam before you can work as a CNS. This exam is administered by the ANCC or American Nurses Credentialing Center. You must be able to pass this certification to ensure hospitals, clinics, and private individuals to ensure them that you can do the job.

Salary of a CNS

With the promising annual salary, it is no wonder why many nurses out there want to pursue higher education and become a CNS. As of late, average salary of a CNS is approximately $81,600.

These are the answers on how to become a clinical nurse specialist. Follow these steps closely so you have all the requirements, skills and knowledge in order for you to achieve your career goal. But the most important thing more than all of these, is that you have the passion and the desire for this job. Without that, all of these will go to waste.

It is devastating to finally realize that you can no longer order your favorite steak in a fine dining restaurant or fast food chain. Even if the sweet aroma of the medium rare rib eye steak entices you a bite and the fat juices oozing out hypnotizes you, something still snaps on your face constantly reminding you – Should you eat this? But you have cirrhosis!

Any damage on the liver causes problems in digestion. It primarily affects metabolism of fats, carbohydrates and detoxification. Therefore, regardless of the cause of this chronic liver disease, a perfect diet plan should be strictly implemented and provided keeping the body achieve a good level of wellness.

Aside from lifestyle modification, persons with liver problems are likely to control their diet and learn to choose foods right for them. Having cirrhosis makes an individual double cautious with the diet intake, food selection and type of drink in every meal. Eating the proper foods helps prevent potential health problems and lessen severity of current signs and symptoms.

The question is how do you plan a cirrhosis diet? What types of food should you consummate exactly? The following are the perfect meal plan for persons with cirrhosis:

Eat foods with complex carbohydrates. This food content, that come from starches and fibers, are highly recommended with an ideal intake of 400 grams per day. This is because carbohydrates help repair damaged liver. Green leafy vegetables like collard greens and artichokes are one of the best sources of complex carbohydrates. Increasing high-fiber intake help boost the immunity of the body such as broccoli, legumes and fruits.

Choose whole grains and protein-rich foods. These types of foods are easily digested, synthesized and absorbed by the body.

Limit multivitamins intake. If one has cirrhosis, you would easily assume you have to take more vitamins and minerals daily. However, this may not be a very good idea. If you are following a meal plan rich in such contents, extra supplements may no longer be required. Though, it would be safe to ask your doctor first before taking extra vitamins and minerals. Normally, if a person’s liver is damaged by cirrhosis, synthesis for excess substances will be difficult.

Stop alcohol drinking and limit high-fat foods. Alcohol is one of the main causes of liver damage; therefore it is fair to say that alcohol drinking should be stopped with no exceptions. Whether it is a hard drink, a cocktail or wine, any beverage with alcohol is strictly not allowed.

Foods that are high in fat should be avoided as it may cause potential digestion problems. Normally, the body breaks down fats using bile. Bile is produced by the liver to digest fats. When the liver is damaged, the supply of bile may be diminished. However, fats should not be completely removed in the diet. Small amounts of fats are still needed to be synthesized by the body to absorb vitamins A, D, E and K. So going back to the situation at the beginning of this article, should you eat the rib eye steak? The answer is no. For your limited dietary fat intake, choose foods with polysaturated and unsaturated fats like nuts, avocados, fish and plant oils.

Limit salt intake. Patients with cirrhosis normally have an enlarged abdomen due to accumulation of fluid in the abdominal cavity. Increased sodium intake may aggravate the situation. Therefore, salt in diet should be removed. Foods such as tomato sauce, salsa, soy sauce, canned soups and other processed foods should no longer be considered as part of your diet.

There could be several conditions and considerations in picking the right meal for a person with a liver problem. Well, at least, one already has an idea what should people with cirrhosis eat.

People who aim to lose weight usually have the notion that eating less will lead them to their goal. While this may be true, eating less can also lead to sickness and poor health. If you want to lose weight, there is no need to sacrifice your health. You can actually eat good food and maintain a healthy weight at the same time. The key is choosing what you eat. You should know which ones are the best foods for weight loss.

Fruits and vegetables are obviously among the foods that are beneficial for those who want to experience successful weight loss. Green vegetables, especially, can make you feel full longer. These vegetables include broccoli, spinach, and cabbage. Kale, Brussels sprouts, olives, asparagus, and artichokes are also green vegetables that are low in calories and high in water content.

Consuming berries such as blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, and cranberries can also make you feel full longer. They contain fiber, and are also high in water content. It is best to consume fresh fruits and vegetables, but frozen and dried variants are not that bad either. Frozen fruits can make high fiber snacks and satisfy your cravings for sweets. Dried fruits can be added to yogurt, nuts, or cereals.

Likewise, salads are also good choices since they are also high in water content and low in calories. You should eat salads with tomatoes, cabbages, cucumbers, and carrots to sustain your body with carbohydrates and fiber. Instead of using high-calorie dressings such as mayonnaise, use olive oil, lemon juice, vinegars, and flavored mustards.

Fiber-rich foods are also among the best foods for weight loss. Whole grains contain vitamins, minerals, and insoluble fiber which lets you eat more without gaining extra calories. Beans such as kidney, pinto, navy, black, and lima contain soluble fiber which helps suppress hunger and make you feel full longer. Lentils are ideal too since they are rich in fiber and protein. They can stabilize your blood sugar and prevent you from having belly fat.

Oats are great sources of fiber, as well. They increase metabolism and promote calorie burn. They break down slowly in your stomach and do not increase insulin levels. They also suppress the appetite, so you will not crave for food often. Just make sure that you avoid instant oatmeal that is overly processed and high in sugar. Choose whole oats instead.

Other foods that are best for weight loss include nuts and low-fat or non-fat dairy products. Nuts contain monounsaturated fats that help stabilize your blood sugars and keep you feeling satisfied for a longer period of time. Pecans, peanuts, almonds, cashews, pistachios, pine nuts, macadamia nuts, Brazil nuts, and hazelnuts are great for snacking.

When trying to lose weight, it is not really necessary to eliminate dairy products from your diet. In fact, most dairy products are available in low-fat and non-fat varieties that are just as good as their full-fat counterparts. Non-fat and low-fat milk, cheese, and yogurt can help stabilize your blood sugar levels and improve your mood.

Protein is also necessary for a healthy body. If you want to gain satiety and build muscles, you should consume protein-rich food. Lean meats are also among the best foods for weight loss. Skinless chicken, turkey breast, venison, and bison sirloin are examples of lean cuts of meat you could eat.

Then again, keep in mind that even lean meats can be bad for your health if not prepared the right way. So, make sure that you keep fat low, remove excess fat and skin, and use a light marinade. To remove any excess grease, it is ideal to prepare the meat on a grill. Also, grilling is much healthier than frying.

Eggs are also among the best foods for weight loss. Eggs are excellent sources of protein. Moreover, eggs contain leucine, an amino acid that reduces lean tissue losses when dieting, stabilizes blood glucose levels, and promotes body fat. Eggs also contain zeaxanthin and lutein, antioxidants that help reduce macular degeneration and cataract.

If you think that dieting means saying ‘no’ to dessert, then you better think again. Your goal of losing weight should not prohibit you from enjoying a treat after a meal. While it is not advisable to have crusted pies, full-fat ice creams, puff pastries, fried or creamy desserts, and rich chocolate cakes, you can still have bars of dark chocolate.

Dark chocolates are great to have for dessert because they contain monounsaturated fats which are helpful in boosting metabolism, as well as burning fats and calories. Eating a dark chocolate with at least seventy-five percent of cocoa content can slow your digestion, make you feel full longer, and curb your cravings for sweet or salty food. Furthermore, experts conclude that dark chocolates are rich in fiber. Fiber, as you know, can help prevent the absorption of fat and satiate hunger.

Note: Instead of dental insurance, you may want to consider getting a dental discount plan which may be cheaper. To find discount plans that have received good consumer feedback please refer to http://www.dentaldiscountplanreviews.com.

Having some teeth problems and not having the money to have oneself checked by the dentist is the last thing one would want to deal with. Aside from the pain the toothache or whatever dental problem one may have to deal with, a person would also have to deal with the high cost of getting dental treatments to ease the pain. People have to learn about how to get cheap dental insurance for the most convenient and practical way to avail of dental services and procedures. The question is, where can one find the best deal? Are the premium rates affordable? Is the coverage sufficient for what is basically needed? Read on and find out.

A lot of people actually find themselves without a dental plan. But not having one could bring a much bigger headache than the toothache itself. It is fortunate for some to be provided with a form of dental insurance in the workplace, but what happens when one gets out of the company? It is still wise to be prepared and have some sort of a back up plan when it comes to dental treatment. Neglecting dental problems is never really a way out of this situation as it could result in more serious dental and health problems in the long run. This is the very reason why having one is still better than none at all.

Those who wish to learn about how to get cheap dental insurance should be careful in scrutinizing and checking their dental insurance quotes. The basic coverage should at least include two free cleanings in a year. Coverage may or may not include x-rays as well as fluoride treatments without cost. With regards to other services, the amount to be paid may be split on a 50/50 basis between the patient and the insurer. Should one need a more affordable plan, then there are also available options in the market that offer a much lower coverage and premium.

Do keep in mind that there are also certain restrictions when availing of a dental policy. The choice of dentist is one. One may actually have a preferred dentist who may not be part of the dentist list of the insurer. This may pose a problem especially when one is used to working with a particular dentist from childhood, who already knows the family’s dental history. It can also be that the dentist one prefers is included in a more expensive coverage meaning one may have to pay an extra amount in order to avail the service of the preferred doctor.

In addition, when it comes to treatments included, some policies will pay out only for the cheapest treatment for certain conditions. It will also be wise to check if the dental plan being availed will not limit the schedule as to days or times when one can visit the dentist listed in the insurance plan. Also, it is better to prepare oneself with a number of forms that needs to be filled up when making a claim.

Knowing how to get cheap dental insurance will definitely make a big difference as compared to having to pay treatments straight from one’s pocket. Just be sure that the premium being paid is equal to the extent of coverage being given. The best deal in the market is still the ones being provided by employers as a form of benefits to employees especially those offered for entire families. Some premiums are also tax deductible so be sure to take advantage of this as well. Remember that in finding the best dental insurance, it is crucial to not just consider what amount one will have to pay but also the many benefits it brings.

Depression is a mental illness which causes a person to feel dejected which, in turn, affects his normal behavior. It is an illness which affects not only adults but also children. A study showed that 1 in 10 adults in the Unites States suffer from depression. The study conducted in 2006-2008 was made in 45 states and showed that among 235, 067 adults, 9.1% are, indeed, depressed. This is significantly higher than the results from 2001 – 2002 which showed 6.6% of the population as a result. People, who are more commonly experiencing major depression, as recorded, were those in the age group of 45 to 64, mostly women, the black Americans, Hispanics and citizens with multiple races. It was also shown that people with less education, previously married, unemployed and/or without health insurance are prone to major depression. However, other types of depression are common among those between 18 and 24 years of age. It must be noted that many of the people suffering depression had experienced death of their loved ones, failure, rejection, bullying, and social isolation.

American Study

Although genetics have a role in a person’s depressive tendencies, some other factors are observed to be more likely depressed than others.

Sex: According to studies, women are twice likely to suffer depression than men. Moreover, about 12% of women living in the Unites States are likely to suffer major depression at some point in their lives. It was also found out that about one in ten women suffer depression ten weeks after giving birth.

Age: Studies show that the risk of developing depression increases with age. It was revealed that the rate of depression in adults ages 45 – 64 is significantly higher than for those in ages 18 – 24; 4.6% and 2.8% respectively. Moreover, 4% of adolescence suffers from serious depression every year. Suicide, which is commonly attributed to depression, is the third leading cause of death of adults ages 18 – 24. Considering this alarming state, about 50% of these adults are not likely to seek medication or therapy.

Ethnicity: According to studies, Non-Hispanic black Americans, Hispanics, and other ethnicities living in the U.S. had the diagnosis of 4.0%, 4.0%, and 4.3%, respectively, to be more likely depressed. This is higher than the 3.1% gathered from non-Hispanic white Americans.

Education: People with less than high school education are more susceptible to depression than those who obtained higher education.

Unemployment: Those who are involuntarily unemployed are more likely to be depressed than those who are employed.

Marital Status: Those who were previously married are more depressed than others. Surprisingly, in this factor, men are more likely to be depressed over a previous marriage than women.

World Facts on Depression

According to studies, about 121 million people around the world are suffering a form of depression. Being so, depression is expected to be the second leading cause of a person’s disability by the year 2020, currently being fourth. Moreover, less than 25% of these people are receiving treatment for their illness. Like in the U.S. studies, women are twice more likely to suffer depression than men in the whole world. Surprisingly, people in countries with higher income are more likely to suffer depression than those from low income earning countries. It is most probably due to the higher cost of living in the high – income earning countries. In the United Kingdom, one in four people suffer a form of depression every year. In fact, about one in five adults are experiencing depression.

The aforementioned are depression statistics. As of the previous studies conducted, the rate of depression is increasing every year and less people are getting treatment for it. Some factors correlate as to who are experiencing depression more. It must be noted that depression is an illness that no one should be ashamed of. Treatment is necessary to stop the increasing number of depression, not only in the U.S but also around the world. Further your education in the area of depression by going here.

If so, then you came to the right place. Here, we will talk about everything that you need to know and have for you to be able to become an oncology nurse. If that is your career goal, read below to find out more on how to achieve this career goal of yours.

Probably the reason why many nurses nowadays want to pursue further studies and have a specialization is because of its fulfilling nature. With a specialization, you can impact more lives and be able to help more patients with their condition. Especially with cancer patients who often need more care and support from people, to be an oncology nurse can really be a fulfilling job for anyone with the passion for it. But before you can be an oncology nurse, there are certain requirements that you must complete and satisfy. To be a highly specialized nurse entails more work and more requirements than a nurse without any specialization.

Nature of the Job

Before you even decide that you need to know how to become a oncology nurse practitioner, you must understand the nature of the job of an oncology nurse. Are you up for the tasks that will be entrusted to you? Do you have the heart and the fortitude for this kind of job? If you answered yes, then you may be a good fit for this job.

As an oncology nurse, you will be involved in most aspects of the patient’s life. From daily physical checkups to treatment, diagnosis and medication – all of these you will do each day. You will be asked to help the patient each time for physical therapy to help him. You will also oversee the diet and nutrition of the patient each time. You can have one or more patients to attend to at the same time s be prepared for that. Emotional stability is also very important as most cancer patients often experience an emotional rollercoaster ride. They will need moral support and empowerment all the time and you must be able to give them that.

Educational Requirement, Certificates and Training

Of course, no oncology nurse became a practitioner overnight or just by reading one paper. It entails a full undergraduate and even a master’s degree, some certificates and licenses to be able to practice as an oncology nurse. This starts with an undergraduate nursing course that you must be able to finish.

A bachelor’s degree is better than an associate degree as most schools and colleges require a bachelor’s degree to be eligible to enroll in a master’s degree program. After your undergraduate education you will be required to secure a license that indicates you are a registered nurse. This exam is administered by the NCLEX-RN to ensure hospitals and clinics that you have the necessary qualifications to practice nursing. In most schools and universities, a two-year working experience might be required so after studying, you might want to secure a job to a hospital where you want to get your master’s degree from.

After completing your master’s degree, there is a certification exam that you must pass again to be qualified to practice as an oncology nurse. This is to ensure that you have the further understanding and skills for this highly specialized job.

Rewards and Opportunities

One of the major reasons why some people want to know how to become a oncology nurse practitioner is because of the rewards and opportunities one can get once he starts practicing. You may be hired by a family as a fulltime nurse for an ill family member or be stationed in a hospital to attend to many patients at the same time. Wherever you are stationed to be a nurse, you can expect great rewards and opportunities coming your way. Average salary of a nurse ranges from $70,000 up to $90,000 a year. But because an oncology nurse is more involved and highly specialized, they are often paid way more than the average salary a nurse without any specialization receives.

Overall, to be an oncology nurse has its perks and privileges which is why many people want to know how to become a oncology nurse practitioner. If this is your passion and have the necessary qualifications to become so, this might be a great opportunity for you.

Breathing is supposed to be easy, and automatic. Normally, we don’t even notice that we’re doing it. We notice more if there is even the slightest difficulty. It would be fearful for anyone if he can’t breathe at all because breathing is one of the functions essential to keeping us alive.

When we talk about breathing, the nose is primarily relevant. Air gets to your lungs through the nose. Unfortunately, there are things that could happen to your nose which can affect breathing. Not only do they cause discomfort, they can also lead to various severe problems.

Nasal Polyps: What are They?

One of the things that can be a problem for your nose is nasal polyps. Basically, they are benign growths that may appear on the lining of your nasal passages. They can also appear along your sinuses. They are soft and painless and hang down in a manner similar to grapes.

Small ones can be negligible. You may not even feel anything to indicate they are there. If there are only a few of them, you won’t have to worry about any problems. Larger growths and numerous groups are the ones that you should watch out for. They can clog nasal passages, resulting into breathing difficulties, loss of sense of smell, and repeated infections.

Who’s Vulnerable?

Anyone can develop nasal polyps, but adults are more prone. There are medications that can reduce the size of the polyps, or even completely eliminate them. However, surgery would be necessary in some cases for their removal.

These growths are closely associated with the inflammation that results from chronic sinusitis. However, they don’t always appear when a person incurs chronic sinusitis. It seems that it’s rather more likely to have a chronic sinusitis without developing polyps.

How Do I Know I Got Them?

Common symptoms that may indicate a chronic sinusitis with nasal polyps are runny nose, postnasal drip, lasting stuffiness, impaired sense of taste and/or smell, pain in the upper teeth, facial pain, feeling of pressure in the forehead, and itching near the eyes.

As you can see, many of the symptoms are similar to the common cold, as well as other conditions. That’s why experiencing these signs does not necessarily mean you have polyps. In any case, it would be a good measure to approach your doctor if the symptoms persist for more than 10 days.

What Causes Them?

When it comes to causes, experts are not yet certain of what causes these growths. They can only link them to certain conditions:

chronic inflammation;

genetic predisposition; and

autonomic nervous system dysfunction.

Many theories regard polyps to be the critical manifestation of chronic inflammation.

The best scientist can present for now are correlations. It is not clear why polyps develop in some patients with the associated conditions and some do not. In patients with bronchial asthma, 20-50% of them have these benign growths. Polyps present themselves in 6-48% of patients suffering from cystic fibrosis, while the percentage is 85% for allergic fungal sinusitis patients. Intolerance to some substance show growths on some patients: 8-26% in Aspirin intolerance, and 50% in alcohol intolerance.

Complication Risks

While they are benign, there are still complications to watch out for. Since nasal polyps affect a prime bodily function, they could have very serious complications. They interfere with proper airflow and fluid drainage in the nasal passages. These growths may cause you to stop and start breathing while you are sleeping. This is called obstructive sleep apnea. Asthma patients can suffer from severe attacks. Nasal polyps can also make your sinus more vulnerable to infections. These infections may spread to the eye area, wherein you risk blindness. To make things worse, the infections can reach the membranes and fluid enclosing your spinal cord and brain leading to meningitis. Strokes may also result because the infection may cause aneurisms that could block blood supply to certain areas of your brain.

What are the Treatment Options?

When it comes to nasal polyps, the doctors aim to shrink, or better yet, completely eliminate them. Their first choice is mostly medications. They will sometimes recommend surgery, but only as a last resort. That’s because surgery may not be a permanent solution because polyps have a tendency to recur.

Drugs for reducing or eliminating polyps include nasal corticosteroids. This is applied via a nasal spray. In case there is no progress, your doctor may prescribe corticosteroids taken orally or via injection. Other medications include antibiotics and antihistamines which don’t directly target polyps, but treat the conditions associated with them such as allergic rhinitis or infections.

If the patient does not show improvement by taking medications, the doctor may recommend surgery. The type depends on several factors, such as size, quantity, and location of the polyps. The severity of the inflammation is also taken into account. For example, small and isolated growths can be removed by a suction device. This is called polypectomy. Another procedure is endoscopic sinus surgery. This can remove polyps, as well as correct problems in your sinuses that make them vulnerable to inflammation and polyp growth. In this process, the doctor uses an endoscope to see inside your sinus and uses appropriate instruments to remove any polyp or other obstructions.

Just remember, if you suspect you have nasal polyps, it is best to consult with a doctor. It would be best if you go to one who is specialized in this area of medicine.

The term forensic nursing reminds people of hit TV shows like NCIS, CSI, and Autopsy. That’s because the profession is quite related to them. Let’s face it, most people’s fascination with crime scene investigation and analysis is inspired by such TV shows so they tend to pursue this career path. Forensic nursing makes this a possibility.

Forensic nursing is an interesting field in medicine that handles victims of violence. It is not necessarily a forensic nurse’s job to investigate the case. Leave that to the investigators. What they are tasked to do is to care for these patients and take part in collecting evidences and criminal procedures. They may also participate in court battles by delivering testimonies based on the evidences gathered during medical procedures.

If you are wondering about how to get a job in forensic nursing, you should ask the right questions. Do you have the credentials? No hospital would accept someone who does not possess credentials and does not demonstrate expertise in this field. An aspiring forensic nurse must go through various phases of education and training before she can become an active part of the healthcare community.

Those who want to know how to get a job in forensic nursing would want to know the requirements first. The first step to becoming a forensic nurse is to obtain a bachelor’s degree in nursing. Take Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) course at a college where quality education and training are offered. The course intends to prepare aspiring nurses by developing their clinical assessment and situational analysis skills. There is too much intensity inside the hospital, let alone the emergency room. If you are pursuing a career in forensic nursing, you must develop strong qualities needed to survive and adapt to this environment.

Nursing graduates are required to pass the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX). Passing the exam earns them a license and makes them Registered Nurses or RN.

Next, you must enroll in a graduate school to obtain a Master’s Degree specializing in Forensic Nursing. This would mean another two years of studying. This will provide in-depth training in forensics which may include death investigation, legal nursing, sexual assault examination, forensic psychiatric nursing, among others. The postgraduate course aims to hone the skills and knowledge of students on legal system, and identification and prevention of physical abuse.

Think about how to get a job in forensic nursing if you lack the credentials. A forensic nursing who aims to further his or her career in the field would want to obtain additional credentials. The IAFNA or the International Association of Forensic Nurses is an institution that offers such certification exams as:

SANE –A or the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner-Adult/Adolescent certification and

SANE-P or the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner-Pediatric/Adolescent certification

Passing these exams certify a nurse for three years, after which must be taken again. This is to keep their certification or license valid. Otherwise, they will not be able to practice. The goal of the IAFN and other exam administering bodies is to keep the forensic nurses updated with medical trends especially in the area of forensics.

How Much Do Forensic Nurses Earn?

Usually, thinking about how to get a job in forensic nursing goes hand in hand with salary. Although passion can easily override the monetary rewards, you cannot help but try to find out how high a forensic nurse’s earning potential can be.

Forensic nurses can earn by the hour or per case. Some hospitals pay as low as $1-$4 an hour or as high as $26-$100 per hour to forensic nurses. If he or she is on call, the payment can hit $500 per case. On the other hand, the annual salary ranges from $60,000 to $200,000.

Should You Become a Forensic Nurse?

If solving criminal cases or investigating victims of domestic violence is your passion, there is no reason why you should not pursue this career. After all, it is one of the most exciting field in the medical world. You can stop imagining yourself to be a CSI cast and live your dreams instead.

Before you figure out how to get a job in forensic nursing, think first how you can become one. It is an exciting job that most registered nurses contemplating on what area to specialize in take forensics as the best route. Prepare your mind and your emotions for this kind of job. That is the best preparation you can do to survive.

You’re encouraged to explore other types of nursing, such as working as a neonatal nurse practitioner.

If you are one of the many who are looking for a job where you can have flexi- time or even work from your home, then this job is for you. You can work as much (or as little) as you want, and the amount of money that you make is all up to you. Let’s talk about how to become a medical transcriptionist.

First of all, let me discuss on what it is all about. It’s about transcribing, or writing out from a doctor’s recorded speech, medical information like patients’ medical histories, physical exam reports, medical consultations, progress notes, etc. and typing it with utmost accuracy and returning it to the doctor who made the dictation for his review, correction, and signature.

Now since we are talking about doctors, we know that they are good professionally but as their penmanship and signatures are hard to understand, so are their speeches. They sometimes mumble their dictation, talk while eating or yawning, and there would be much noise in the background. All of which may contribute to difficult transcribing. Which is why some form of training programs are required to be accepted as a medical transcriptionist.

Education, Training and Certification

How to become a medical transcriptionist? One needs to undertake a formal medical transcriptionists’’ training program. One can get them from technical schools or small colleges and can even be found online. The courses are two-years for an associate’s degree and 0ne year for a certificate program and focuses on medical transcription, medical terminology, health and disease, pharmacology, administrative procedures, and many others.

A good knowledge of human anatomy and physiology are also called for. One can get certificate, diploma, or associates degrees. Formal accreditation is not required although voluntary accreditation is offered by the Association of Healthcare Documentation Integrity (AHDI) and the America Health Information Management Association. A good typing skill is necessary for one to be a good transcriptionist. The faster one can type, the faster one can finish a document and the more money one can make.

Another important skill is having a good ear. As mentioned earlier, it can sometimes be difficult listening to doctors’ dictations because of the above-mentioned factors, plus the fact that not all doctors have good accent. Therefore, students are required to have good English grammar skills and have adequate knowledge on word-processing software. Lastly, a transcriptionist must be trained to understand medical abbreviations. Since the transcribed document is a legal document, it is of vital importance that each one is accurately transcribed. So the transcriptionist needs to know which parts can be changed or not. As one finishes one’s program and graduates with a certificate or diploma, then one is ready to embark on being a medical transcriptionist.

Job Duties

How to become a medical transcriptionist? A medical transcriptionist can work in comfortable doctors’ offices, transcription service offices, hospitals, medical libraries, or even from one’s own home. Transcriptionists working in offices may answer phones, receive patients, and other jobs related to the particular office’s function.

Some may work with speech therapists, occupational therapists, business support service offices, or even audiologists. If one types fast then one turns over more transcribed documents and thereby gets a higher salary. The payment schemes are varied.

Some get paid on an hourly basis and some are paid by the line that they have transcribed. A medical transcriptionist working independently may get a higher pay than one working in an office although his expenses may be a bit higher too. On the other hand, the office worker transcriptionists receive benefits and have a low risk termination rate.

Average Pay Rate

The average salary for a medical transcriptionist in 2008 was $15.41 / hour and has risen to $19.60 this year. The average annual pay range would be $19,347 – $42,162. Considering that one is working from one’s home, then one doesn’t have to spend money on office clothes and gas every day. Counting in these extra savings, then it means that on is making more money since these expenses won’t be disbursed from one’s home transcription career. This can make for a good home career but one must be cautious before spending cash on classes. It is advised to have a good look at one’s skills and needs before embarking on a medical transcriptionist career. As the saying goes: What’s good for the goose may not be good for the gander!

That is what’s needed to be a dependable medical receptionist. If you have those characteristics, and you love working in a medical setting, then read on!

Training and Certification

If one is wondering how to become a medical receptionist then here are a few things one needs to consider. First, one needs a high school diploma or its equivalent (a GED may be needed here). Some employers may require CPR and/ or first aid certification. Some hands-on training will provide prospects with experiences in a medical setting real-time.

Candidates may be required to learn medical office procedures, data entry and managing records, medical transcription, hospital policies, medical terms, and medical laws. The training found in medical schools and other colleges often last 2 years during which, trainees are taught about duties and responsibilities pertaining to health related matters. Some of these may overlap with a medical assistant’s duties so they may be coached about minor surgical procedures. Excellent communication skills and a baronial personality are a must in this job coupled with a lot of patience as one inevitably will handle numerous phone calls and dubiousness of patients and other people day in and day out. Grads of these programs are now ready for immediate employment.

Work Duties

How to become a medical receptionist? The usual work place of a medical receptionist is a doctor’s or dentists’ office although some work at hospitals and he or she is the very first contact that a patient will have whether on the computer, on the phone, or in the office as the patient walks in. One has to be ready with a smile on one’s face upon greeting a patient and be ready to answer all questions on appointments and scheduling, not to mention provide assistance for all of the patient’s needs. Essentially, one gives the first impression of what the office is like by the way one conveys one’s self.

Aside from welcoming patients and other personnel from hospitals or insurance companies, a large portion of the job is to collect patients’ records and maintaining them in an orderly manner, and to handle doctors’ prescriptions. Other duties which are necessitated are typing, faxing, emailing, taking messages and forwarding them to the appropriate receiver, and basically being the conduit between doctors and patients. That is why one’s communication skills need to be on a constantly high level and since one is constantly forwarding information, good listening skills are also necessary.

While it is essential to know about computers, it is equally important to have some knowledge on medical terms which certainly makes for an easier understanding of doctors’ orders. In cases where on is employed in a government heath facility, a medical receptionist may be asked to perform other job outlines. The regular working hours is the usual 40-hour week although one may be expected to work extended hours in case there are emergencies. In a large facility where patient admission rate is high, one will be asked to work long hours or may have another medical receptionist for a reliever. Since hospitals are usually busy, a receptionist would often get a lot of work load given to him or her and many people thrashing things while one still has a lot on one’s hands so it is best to be ready for this.

Salary Range

In the U.S., the average salary range of a medical receptionist is from about $18.000 – $30,000 with a mean of about $25,000. Doctors’ and dentists’ offices were noted to have paid a little above the mean. Some statistics show that the hourly pay range is $9.66- $16.23 with overtime pay at $4.42- $ 23.46. The annual pay would range from $20,220- 35,138 a year. Getting more training is one way to get a higher salary or moving to higher end places like New York city is another.

How to become a medical receptionist is a good way to enter the world of the medical profession and as one gets more medical receptionist training, one gets a wide potpourri of kinds of jobs to choose from. And one can be assured for the time being that there are no worries about being eased out of a job like in several other fields caused by a worsening economy since this job market is steady with its expansion.

While these two terms are often interchanged, each performs a distinct function to ensure that your physician or healthcare provider is reimbursed for their services on a timely basis. Often, these are two jobs performed by different person, while in some health care settings it is combined into one individual.

If you are thinking of pursuing a lucrative career in the healthcare industry, medical billing and coding (MBC) can be a sound choice for you.

Role and Responsibilities

To gain a better understanding of each role, we are breaking them into two definitions:

The medical coder or MC is a trained professional with extensive knowledge of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-9), a standard diagnostic tool for epidemiology, health management and clinical purposes. As the name suggests, the MC deals closely with patient’s medical records by translating the doctor’s diagnosis or method of treatment into specific alphanumeric or numeric codes derived from the standard classification manuals and procedures. These codes are used to provide healthcare statistics and to determine the amount of bills that are rendered for payment.

The typical day of MC in a hospital setting involves the review of patient health records and track of statistics which are useful in documenting the prevalence of a particular illness and providing accurate figures for mortality rates. Most of the time, they do not interact with patients and insurance companies as they are working “back door”.

The medical biller (MB), on the other hand, works closely with the MC in organizing data concerning bills. The MB manages payments and submits claims to insurance companies. The MB is also responsible in resolving conflicts on payments and in providing follow up procedures to ensure the on-time payment for your hospital and doctor. Unlike the MC, an MB may talk to patients and insurance companies for payment settlements.

In general, the process of medical billing and coding begins after you provide your insurance information in paying for your hospital dues.

Training and Certification

Medical billing and coding requires a background or knowledge of anatomy, physiology and medical terms. Having good computer skills is also an advantage in using specialized software for this type of job.

To become a coder and biller, one must have at least a post secondary education and pass an accredited program in MBC. Professionals with an associate degree or bachelor’s degree related to the field like psychology or biology are preferred by most employers. But for those who do not have background in the field, it is advisable to take specialized courses from certified institutions or online learning websites. The courses cost about a thousand dollars and it will take six months to one year of completion depending on the level of knowledge and experience in the field.

The American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) offers programs to become a Certified Professional Coder (CPC). There is also a specialty credential for billers alone called Certified Reimbursement Specialist from the American Medical Billing Association (AMBA).

Average Salary

Latest records of U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) showed that MCB specialists earn an average salary of $32,350 per year or equivalent to $15.55 per hour. Industry demand for this profession is expected to grow by 21% for the next eight years.

Meanwhile, the 2010 Salary Study of medical coding and billing giant American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), showed that medical coding professionals with Coding Certified Specialist (CCS) certification has the highest average salary which was approximately $60,919.

In the latest 2011 Medical Coding Salary Survey of the American Academy of Professional Coders, another leading MCB industry association, the average salary of a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) was approximately $46,800.

On the other hand, salary for billers and coders with advanced certifications ranges from $54,700 to $76,000.

As the job seemingly promises a rewarding income along the way, one should keep in mind that educational level and experience are important factors in determining how much you will make in the industry. By looking at the figures above, it can be noted that those who attain a post college degree, advanced training, or longer experience are more likely to get better pay. So are you ready to jump start your career in medical billing and coding?

Alternately, while you’re considering a career in the medical field, why not also check out http://www.how-to-become-a-pharmacy-technician.com? Becoming a pharmacy technician may just be the ideal career choice for you.

A Registered Nurse’s Tasks and Duties

The most important reminder on how to become a registered nurse is to understand what the duties and responsibilities are. A registered nurse takes care of patients and provides their needs. She helps and assists patients that come to the clinic for a checkup and those who are required to be hospitalized for a few days. A nurse may be assigned to take care of different types of patients.

Some nurses are assigned to take care of elderly people in hospitals or nursing homes, while some are assigned in the neonatal department or the neonatal intensive care unit where they take care of both healthy and sick infants that are up to 28 days old. Those assigned in the neonatal department needs to have special skill in taking care of very young babies. They need to be able to provide the special care and medical attention that sick and premature babies need.

Neonatal nurses usually undergo a training that will give them the special skills they need in taking care of newborn babies. The babies in the neonatal department are those that were born healthy and were in their full term. These babies were born with no illnesses. The newborn babies in the NICU or neonatal intensive care unit are the ones that were premature or have illnesses and cannot leave the hospital yet unless they are much stronger and healthier.

Taking Care of Old People

Nurses that are assigned to take care of old people in the hospital or nursing homes also need to undergo a special training to gain knowledge and emotional strength to take care of old people. The elderly people in nursing homes are usually weak and grouchy. They also usually have short temper and poor memory thus special care, affection, determination and patience is needed to be able to take care of them.

Steps to Follow on How to Become a Registered Nurse

A person who wants to be a registered nurse must first decide on the type of education that she will be taking. She may choose between taking a bachelor’s degree called Bachelor’s Science in Nursing and an associate degree. The bachelor’s degree is a four year course and an associate degree is just a two year course. Either course can be chosen to be able to work as a nurse but finishing the four year course will open more doors to opportunities and promotions. Individuals who don’t have much money yet may opt to get the two year course and work at small hospitals and can just continue her studies to the four year course once she has enough funds for her education.

Another option is the licensed practical nursing course. This is pretty much like a c course for caregivers and nursing aides. People who have finished this course can work as assistants and perform duties of a nurse except for some serious tasks such as performing some sensitive procedures and administrating the intake of dangerous drugs.

Courses for Aspiring Registered Nurses

Education is very important in achieving a dream as a nurse. After completing a two or four year course, there are some interviews and exams that need to be taken to get a nursing license. A nurse may need a few months to review then she has to take the exam that will make her a registered nurse. After passing the licensure examination, externship needs to be finished. A registered nurse needs to complete a certain hours of clinical work. Some hospitals pay for the hours that the nurse works for them while some hospitals may ask the nurse to pay them to be able to work and complete their hours. This usually happen when the hospital is very popular and is over staffed.

The Registered Nurse’s Salary

Another important reminder on how to become a registered nurse is to know how much nurses are getting for their salary. The median salary of registered nurses in 2011 depends on the number of years they have been working as a nurse. Those who have been working for 20 years or more get $76,560, those who have been working as nurses for 10 to 19 years usually get paid $71,914, nurses who have been working in the medical field for 5 to years get paid with $65, 939 annually and those who have been a nurse for 1 to 4 years get paid with $58, 608. Registered nurses who have just started in the medical field and have been in the industry for less than a year get $49,314 per year which is still competitive and will still get higher as their knowledge and tenure increases. The other factors where nurses’ salaries are based are the recognitions and awards received for being an outstanding nurse and the training and certifications she had.

Another popular career in the same industry is the Physician Assistant career. See http://www.topphysicianassistantschools.com to find out what the requirements are for working in that field.

If the dentist’s job is to treat gums for infections and perform tooth procedures, he is responsible in information dissemination and awareness, and health maintenance to prevent severe oral diseases from arising.

Job Description

Basically, an oral hygienist can work in a variety of environment. He can be a part of a small or large group of dental professionals. He may be assigned in a private clinic or in a hospital, in a community health center, correctional facilities, or in nursing homes. Although a dental hygienist can establish his own private clinic, he is usually assisting dentists in performing major operations to patients. Like dentists, oral hygienists are also graduates of accredited dental health institutions from recognized colleges or universities. They are also required by law to pass the licensure exam before practicing. Researchers, educators, or administrators to health institutions also contribute on inquiries of what is a dental hygienist.

Each state has varying standards for the implementation of regulations for dental professionals. The basic duties of an oral hygienist includes the careful review of the patient’s dental records and history, assessment of the patient status by means of interview and consecutive chats, conducts oral cancer screening, and educates about dental problems and its preventions. He also processes and interprets oral x-rays. In performing dental procedures, he is responsible in removing plaques and tartar, injecting anesthesia, applying cavity preventive ingredients such as flouride and sealants to prevent bacteria from damaging the teeth. The job of the dental hygienist does not end by administering medications for oral problems or performing vital operations to prevent tooth decay. The more important responsibility is their contribution in the information dissemination campaign on the proper dental care. The must also conduct patient counseling when needed to help patients obtain optimal dental health.

Salary

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, the future for dental hygienist employment is broad. It is predicted that by 2018, the employment rate for oral hygienist will grow up to 36 percent. By 2020, the annual growth for job opportunities for dental professionals will doubly exceed all other occupations. This is because the target market is presumed to be needing regular dental services as compared to the last decade. However, graduates of dental health programs may experience tough competition for job slots since laws require them to practice exclusively within the state where they obtained their licensure. Since 2006, the American Dental Hygienists’ Association has seen the tremendous growth of 13 percent for all oral health opportunities across many states.

In 2011, the average annual salary of dental hygienists is $69,280 with an hourly rate of $33.31. Fifty percent of the surveyed population earned between $55,220 and $78,990 while the lowest 10 percent has an annual salary of less than $44,180. Employment benefits are competitive in most states but they vary depending on the working environment. Like other occupations, dental hygienists receive most common type of benefits such as paid vacation and sick leaves, and provision for retirement and health plans.

They can also choose to be paid on varying schemes like hourly, daily, monthly, or commission-based salary. In private sectors, they are oftentimes offered the hourly-rate salary while government-subsidized health institutions have fixed monthly salary for these professionals depending on skills and qualifications. Oral hygienists who wish to obtain higher commission or salary rate are encouraged to pursue higher educational attainment or to seek training to more sophisticated clinics and hospitals worldwide. Salaries vary greatly whether the dental hygienist works as a clinic professional, educator, or researcher.

With different types and levels of nurses, it can be interesting to explore about the different options in terms of nursing field specialization. And among the top choices for nursing professionals – when talking about industry demand and compensation – is the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS).

A CNS is an Advance Practice Nurse (APN) who holds either a master’s or doctorate degree in specific area of nursing practice. Its role usually falls into five categories: education/teaching, research, clinical practice, consulting and management.

As an educator, the CNS educates the patient and their families about illnesses and treatments; promotes professional growth and development of trainee nurses and hospital staff by means of mentoring and coaching; and serves a lecturer in schools and health conferences.

The expertise of a CNS also involves conducting in-depth researches about patient problems and offers a solution to it. It is the CNS job to keep up with the current and modern trends of the medical industry in order to come up with researchers that are valuable to the needs of patients and the hospital that she works for. The CNS therefore ensures that the patients receive the best care from the nursing staff.

As a CNS focuses only on one or two specific areas of expertise, they are more than just being involved in patient care. They also perform consultative function among physicians and other medical professionals to develop methods than can help improve patient care and outcomes.

In some cases, they are often hired for managerial roles as Nurse Manager and handles both registered and non-registered nurses in an organization where he or she is expected to exercise good judgment and leadership skills among his or her colleagues. They should also be good problem solvers as they need to address the needs of patients and nursing staff.

There is a wide range of areas in which a CNS can specialize whether it is in child care, infectious diseases and treatments and rehabilitation to name a few.

Education and Certification

A Clinical Nurse Specialist, being an advanced nurse practice, requires a higher level of education and training. As mentioned, a CNS must be a registered nurse and hold a master’s or doctorate degree. A CNS can apply for certification through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and other specialty organizations. Additionally, the ANCC offers career enrichment and professional affiliations for medical professionals and practitioners alike.

In the state of California, for example, the completion of an accredited advance nursing program, and a minimum of 500 hours of clinical experience along with Master’s level course work in their so-called “five component areas of competency” (education, clinical practice, management, research and consulting), are prerequisites to qualify for a CNS certification.

As this type of specialization often conducts extensive research, a continuous training and education is important. This advanced nurse specialist will need to fulfill certain education requirement every five years in order to maintain their license and to achieve further growth in the profession.

Working Environment

A CNS may also work in a variety of healthcare setting such as nursing home, emergency room, health care agency, etc. Because this profession requires different roles and responsibility, it can be an integral part of any type of medical facility. Depending on the area of specialization, a CNS can work and gain experience in that field. Some CNS, on the other hand, opt to keep an office for research purposes.

Job Prospects and Career Development

Though the clinical nurse specialist requires the most education and training as compared to some other types of nurses, this specialization can be an excellent career choice in terms of industry demand and compensation.

As the profession focuses not only on patient care but also in other specialized skills, it is a valuable resource to healthcare industry. There is an anticipated 26% growth for registered nurses including the CNSs from 2010-2020 according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

Salary and Benefits

Reports from the BLS showed that the average salary for a Health Diagnosing and Treating Practitioners (which includes clinical nurse specialist) was approximately $72,000 in May 2012. Though this figures may vary according to geographical location, education level and experience, field expertise and employer. But many CNS enjoy flexible work schedules, health benefits, and work bonuses.

Other high-paying specialized nursing profession in the U.S. are Certified Registered Nurse Anaesthetist (CRNA), and Nurse Practitioner (NP).

Tasks and Duties

Medical assistants take orders from the physicians and provide assistance to other medical staff needing their help. They usually need to multi-task as there are many duties given to them every day of their work. Their duties include preparing, coding and filing documents for insurance claims, taking the patients’ vital signs, updating the patients’ medical records and even treating of minor bruises and wounds. They may even perform some medical procedures under the supervision of licensed physicians. There are five steps that an individual needs to take to become a medical assistant.

The Job and the Salary

The first step is to make a research about a medical assistant’s job description and what he needs to go through to get a job. It is important that one knows that things that he needs to accomplish such as studying medicine, working late to obtain sufficient clinical hours and other processes that he needs to complete. A person needs to know exactly what he is getting into before he enrolls to a medical school. Another thing that a potential medical assistant needs to know is how much a medical assistant earns. This step may not be necessary for those whose passion and dream is to work in the medical field but those who need to earn a decent salary and want to have a promising career must know how much the salary usually is. They may also check on the factors that affect the salary offered by clinics and hospitals.

Taking Courses

The second step on how to become a medical assistant is to find the best school and start studying. There are many schools that offer medicine courses and a potential medical assistant must find the best school that offers a tuition fee that will not cause him financial burden. Obtaining student loans or having part time jobs may be options to those who want to study at popular and expensive schools or universities but don’t have much funds to sustain their needs. The courses that need to be taken must include biology, anatomy, physiology and other medicine courses. An individual who has a dream of working as a medical assistant must finish a diploma course which usually needs one year to complete or an associate degree which takes two years to complete. They must also take subjects that will let them learn about accounting, record keeping, pharmaceutical principles and other laboratory strategies.

Completing a Course for a Medical Assistant Job

The third step on how to become a medical assistant is to get good grades and finish the course. Having failing grades will prolong the course and may even affect the records. Some hotels and clinics also consider the grades and awards received in school so if an individual is aiming for a great salary and benefits then he must start reaching his dreams by doing well in school. Some hospitals and clinics may also ask for recommendation letters and ones from the college professors will definitely give a bigger chance of getting hired. Professors will definitely give great recommendation letters to excellent and competitive students.

Certification Process

The fourth step how to become a medical assistant is to get a certification which proves that a person is highly qualified to work at a hospital or clinic. This fourth step is not a requirement but most companies and hospitals prefer to hire those who have been certified. Being certified also gives the sense of fulfillment and boosts a person’s self confidence. The certification exam is given out three times a year which means there is enough time to review or practice everything that was taught in school.

Finding a Job as a Medical Assistant

The fifth and last step is to find a job. Jobs as assistants in the medical field are booming. There are lots of hospitals that need assistants and the salaries and benefits they offer are mostly promising. An individual who have just graduated and is ready to take his first job in the medical field must prepare his documents such as the school records and recommendation letters from at least three people who have been in the medical field for a long time. This option is not always needed but it is best to have them prepared just in case a company asks for it. Having the documents all set and ready will avoid any delays in the employment process. The average annual salary of a medical assistant is $17, 794 for those whose work experience is less than one year, $19,350 for those who have one to four years of experience and $20, 928 for those who have been working for 10 to 19 years.

Another career you may want to consider is the Pharmacy Technician. Visit http://www.how-to-become-a-pharmacy-technician.com to find out more about this field and how you can work as a pharmacy technician.

Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP) is an umbrella term for a group of professionals specializing in health care services. They are educated and trained to be responsible for providing care among patients confined at private homes, nursing facilities, rehabilitation centers and hospitals. Unlike other medical professions, UAPs do not hold licenses. Instead, they are categorized under the Personal Health Care Workers as defined in the 2008 International Standard Classification of Occupations.

Types of UAP

Below are the five types of Unlicensed Assistive Personnel that are in-demand today in several countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand.

1. Nursing Assistants

These are trained professionals supporting the entire nursing staff in rehabilitation centers, doctor’s offices and other health care facilities. The job of a nursing assistant requires good communication skills, sense of humor and ability to lift patients.

Majority of nursing assistants, who are fondly known as “healthcare workers”, undergo training via programs offered at community colleges, medical schools and organizations like Red Cross. Completion of the program lasts within three weeks to one month, depending on the individual requirements.

Most nursing assistant jobs require certification which can be acquired by 1) completing the program and 2) passing the examinations.

Salary Range: $53,000

2. Patient Care Assistants

PCAs assist doctors or head nurses in taking the vital signs of patients. They also help patients with their hygiene needs and assists interns in getting laboratory specimens. PCAs are responsible for charting patient health progress as well as organizing medical supplies.

Requirements: A GED/high school diploma is not required. However, applicants must be at least 15 years of age. A number of PCA programs have been recently established to give high school students an opportunity to start working. These programs provide administered clinical experiences related to: communication/interpersonal skills, vital signs, basic anatomy, nutrition, infection control, CPR, safety measures and hospital employability skills.

A minimum of 45 clinical hours is required. Students may also finish extra clinical hours such as hospital rotations and fieldwork. The state-approved PCA Component requires 125 hours. Some institutions offering PCA programs require 240 hours.

Salary Range: The average hourly wage for PCA is $11.59

3. Auxiliary Nurses

These are health care assistants working under the supervision of a Certified Healthcare Practitioner. In Britain, auxiliary nurses are referred to as “unregistered nurses”. Pursuing a career in this field is a rewarding experience, since this serves as your stepping stone in becoming a registered nurse.

Requirements: Candidates must have an 85+ grade in Mathematics and English.

The job of becoming an auxiliary nurse does not require formal qualifications. Career placements are often granted upon the basis of prior experience, compassion, commitment and suitability for the position.

Applicants will take basic Math and English tests. Once they’re qualified, they will take charge of monitoring clinical figures, recording blood pressure & pulse rates and controlling basic medication.

Salary Range: $2,268 – $3,000

4. Geriatric Aides

These UAPs helps patients who are seeking for personal care. “Geriatric” refers to the aged individuals. Senior citizens in need of geriatric care are being confined at nursing or private homes. Geriatric aides assist them with personal care such as bathing & dressing, toileting, grooming, feeding as well as certain cleaning tasks.

Requirements: Many geriatric aide positions do not grant educational requirements except for high school diploma. On-the-job training at health care centers is usually provided by schools. In the US, around 50 colleges are now offering two to four-year degree programs in Gerontology. The subject covers sociology, health care, psychology, biology and first-aid training, to name a few.

Salary Range: $8.57 – $10.11 per hour

5. Psychiatric Aides

They assist emotionally disturbed and mentally impaired patients. Working under the supervision of a medical or nursing staff, psychiatric aides assist patients during their daily activities. They also accompany them during treatments.

Psychiatric aides help mental health practitioners (therapists, social workers, psychiatric nurses, psychiatrists, psychologists) care for individuals suffering from mental disorders. Applicants for this job must have a strong desire and passion to help people. Also, they should carry a profusion of tact, patience, perseverance and compassion. Psychiatric aides must possess excellent communication skills and are willing to commit themselves in repetitive tasks. In addition, these Unlicensed Assistive Personnel must have good health records.

Requirements: There is no specific training or credential required to become a psychiatric aide. In some countries however, psychiatric aides are required to take a pre-formal training program. A number of employers administer their own formal training.

Salary Range: As of 2002, the hourly wage for psychiatric aides is $11.04. The US Government recently approved a law authorizing all nursing homes to increase the salary. Today, the hourly wage for psychiatric aides is $25.50.

6. Home Health Aides

To find extensive information on what home health aides do, how much they earn, and the kind of training and certification needed in order to work as one, kindly refer to this site here.

Practice and Training

Unlicensed Assistive Personnel are very important members of the entire healthcare team holding a high level of ability and experience. While this profession does not require people to enroll in any medical course, most healthcare centers prefer those who are carrying a high level of physical agility. Not to mention, excellent communication skills.

Recognition

Unlicensed Assistive Personnel are recognized by The US Association of Nurses as individuals who are specially trained in maintaining the smooth flow of client/patient care activities.

The National Association of School Nurses is among the many organizations supporting the monthly hiring of UAPs. This is in response to the increase of nursing graduates who failed to pass the licensure examinations. In 2011, only 150,000 out of 400,000 examinees became registered nurses.

mom holding baby

An adoptive mother of a baby may decide to relactate or induce lactation in order to nourish and bond with her adopted baby. Relactation or induced lactation for adoptive mothers involves a two- fold process:

First, you will need to teach the infant to feed at the breast and to make nursing comfortable experience. Secondly, during the whole process, you will need to develop a supply of milk. To develop a supply of milk would require stimulating the nipple. This could be done through pumping, hand expression, nursing a baby or a combination of all.

If you are an adoptive mother who chooses to induce lactation, here are some time-proven tips to help you throughout the process:

1. Be sure of the reason on why you decide to breastfeed. Successful relactating mothers are often those who have the attitude that they want to nourish their infants at their breasts.

2. 2. Get ready for stress. Preparing yourself mentally and physically and learning the techniques for the entire relactation process are usually helpful during the first couple of days when your infant may resist sucking your breast or your milk could be slow to come in. Aside from the stress that you will have to undergo while breastfeeding round the clock, you may also have to supplement with a bottle of milk formula, which can also be an added stress for you both physically and emotionally.

3. Have a support system around you. Surround yourself with people who would encourage you and provide you with the support that you need in nursing your baby. Have friends or family members around who are willing to extend help during supplemental feedings when you get overly stressed or tired. Ask your husband or your significant other to help out with the household chores so that you can focus on breastfeeding your baby instead of doing the meals or the laundry. Always have a regular visit to your pediatrician and take advantage of their tried and tested tips and learned wisdom.

4. Get ready for resistance. Your little one is used to be having milk in some other ways, most often in a feeding bottle that is way different than your nipple which requires a varied technique in sucking. Expect your baby to get used to this change for about a week or a month before your little one can nurse from your breast very well. Be patient and never give up too soon.

5. Have your nipples stimulated. Nipple stimulation is the key to producing milk, and the best manner to achieve nipple stimulation is through your baby’s repeated breastfeeding. The more often you breastfeed your baby, the more amounts of milk your breasts shall produce. The best way to do it is to feed on demand. Do not hesitate in trying out other means of nipple stimulation as well. Milk production can also be encouraged through breast pumping, nipple rolling and breast massage. You may also place your breast milk in a bottle and giving it to your infant could be a good means to have your infant get used to the new taste, while still having the convenience of your baby’s usual technique of sucking.
